Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The Grimsby-based Humber Warehousing Co Ltd, is making plans to acquire new businesses in order to further expand its transport operation. This was revealed last week in London when Mr. G. Hallam, managing director, and members of his executive team met the trade Press. It was also revealed that last year the company's transport business increased by no less than 32 per cent; total mileage covered by the fleet was 9 m, During the year Humber made a particularly large investment in trailers, which now gives a trailer-to-unit ratio of nearly 2:1.

The present fleet totals 252 vehicles, of which 130 are used for frozen food transport, while 122 are general haulage flats and 19 are tippers. As well as frozen foods and dry foods, the company carries large quantities of timber, pulp, raw materials arid farm produce. It is claimed to be the largest independent frozen food carrier in Britain.

Two of the company's main developments over the past year have been in connection with frozen food transport. Depots were opened at Grantham and Scarborough whose basic purpose was to provide distribution facilities for major frozen food companies establishing large production units at these places. These distribution operations have, however, acted also • as a nucleus for expansion of general transport work at the two depots.

At Britsol and Lowestoft, new depots are being built to replace existing buildings, while extensions are planned for the Grimsby headquarters. Meanwhile, in the expanding warehousing business, the company has recently put into operation at !mmingham a completely new dry warehouse equipped with the latest mechanical handling devices.

Humber Warehousing's fleet is composed mainly of vehicles up to one year old, the balance being largely within the two-year age span; it depreciates its vehicles on a three-year basis in order to maintain an up-to-date fleet.
