Flexible Stencils

• STENCILS made from a plastics material called

P.-) polyethylene are being produced by Heller and Sons (Engineers), Ltd., 51 Turnpike Lane, London, N.8. Known as Permet stencils, their claimed advantages are durability, flexibility and strength. Unlike metal stencils, they retain their flatness and never need to be straightened, and as they are transluscent it is easier to align lettering.

Because polyethylene is inert, the stencils are simple to clean. They are cut from various thicknesses of sheet, and circular stencils with many letters are available.

Tape Writing AVARIETY of Sellotape which may be written upon in pen or pencil is being distributed by Gordon and Gotch, Ltd., 75-79 Farringdon Street, London, E.C.4. Available in widths of up to 1 in in rolls of 30 yd., the material is intended for the repair of documents and blueprints but may also have uses in packaging.

The adhesive does not ooze at the sides, so that the tape can be used on plans and maps which need to be folded or rolled. The product is called Sellotape permanent repair tape.

Accurate Inflation rALIBRATED from 0-120 p.s.i., a tyre

gauge claimed to retain consistent accuracy is offered at £2 I4s. retail by Lucas Pressure Gauge Co., Ltd., Larches Passage, Highgate Road, Birmingham, 11. The dial has a diameter of 4 in. and the footing is fixed at the end of a metal tube, allowing the gauge to be used for checking twin wheels.

Oil Additives

DREV1OUSLY handled by F.U. I (London), Ltd., Wynn's frictionproofing products are now being sold in the United Kingdom by Metal Protection Products, Ltd., Wrencote House, High Street, Croydon, Surrey, the sole agents. The products are lubricant additives for use in the engines and transmission systems of vehicles, also for air compressors and the bearings of different kinds of industrial machinery.

A 2-per-cent. addition of H.D.V. compound to engine oil at every 1,000 miles is claimed to enhance bearing life, and another type of additive may be put in

the fuel to the proportion of 1 pint to 80 gal. There is also an additive for cutting oils.

New manufacturing facilities have been set up by the Wynn Co., of Azusa, California, U.S.A., on the Continent, and the compounds are now available in this country without the previous difficulty caused by payment in dollars.

Hoist Attachment THE Hydrajig is an attachment for fitting to the ram of hydraulic hoists and offers a wide range of positions so that it can be used to elevate number of different types of vehicle. Produced by Laycock Engineering, Ltd., Osborne Road, Sheffield, 11. it has a capacity of 3 tons.

Half-ton Stackers TWO portable 10-cwt. stackers have I been introduced by A. Hirst and Son, Ltd., Meadow Lane, Dewsbury, Yorks. One is hand-operated with a three-speed hydraulic pump. It has a lift of 5 ft. and a width between the straddle• arms of 3 ft. 2 in. Its height is 7 ft.. width 3 ft. 8 in. and the length 4 ft. 6 in. with 2-ft. 6-in, forks.

The other. model has a 2 h.p. singleor three-phase motor to drive the pump. The standard type has a lift of 9 ft. 6 in., but this dimension may be between 6 ft. 6 in. and 12 ft. to order. Height of the standard model with forks lowered is 6 ft, 5 in. and the width 3 ft. 10 in. Length with 2-ft. 6-in, forks is ,4 ft. 8 in. and the width inside straddle arms 3 ft. 2 in.

Speed of lift is 35 ft. per mm., and the lowering speed 25 ft. per min. The appliance weighs approximately 9 cwt.
