VI' system in the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland, road transport is gradually widening its scope, according to a survey published in Barclays Bank's Overseas Review. There are now more than 400 trunk operators there, and last year they carried about 2+ per cent. of the total tonnage hauled on routes served by the railways.
To a great extent, this road tonnage was made up of consignments in specially constructed bulk transporters—petrol, milk and cement made up most of the 140,000 tons carried.
