QT1LL keener competition in thc commercial-vehicle market, both at home and abroad, is reported by Mr. David J. Grimes, chairman of Dennis Bros., Ltd., in his annual statement. He protests against the purchase tax on chassis, which is particularly serious for manufacturers of high-grade vehicles. He says the demand for Dennis municipal vehicles has been more than
maintained. Sales of fire-engines with two-pedal control have come up to expectations at home and have increased in numbers overseas.
Despite the threat of renationalization of road haulage and other difficulties, Mr. Grimes regards the future with confidence. He speaks particularly of "intelligent and keen young men in all departments working as a team with the board in getting the best out of the market, and at the same time developing new ideas to keep. our manufacturing lines outside the scope of our larger and other competitors."
