r LAI M INC that their bus services \--• between Openshaw and the Trafford Park works of the Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co., Ltd., were running below capacity, Manchester Corporation opposed a' works service application before the Mirth Western Traffic Commissioners lait week.

Bowkerwanted to renew the licence for: his Openshaw-Trafford Path service with .niodifitationS. •There was also': an application by•.: H: Thorrias (MOtors),' Ltd., Chorlton-cum-Hardy, to take over.M-r. Bowker's. service. In turn, the; corporationasked -for their own service to he -extended •by-tWo miles so that it would. be -similar to thatrun by
Mr. Bowker.
• For the corporation, Mr. J. Swarm/ell said they, originally made an' application for the extension •in :June, 1957,after representations . from', MeffopolitanVickers, but the hearing was adjourned for a further witness following an objection by Mr. Bowker. • Now the company no longer supported the application because of the fall-off in the number of employees wanting transport on that route.
Mr. Swarwell submitted that Mr. Bowker's service, run on five days of the
week, was no longer necessary. The corporation had ample accommodation for Opcnshaw travellers.
Mr. E. Dale, Thomas Motors' managing director, said he agreed to buy Mr. Bowker's goodwill in July after operating the service on hire for eight months. A 33-seater was used and was normally filled and now 38 workmen had signed a petition asking for a second vehicle.
Mr. F. Williamson, chairman, said the take-over would be granted subject to a scrutiny of the agreement. The corporation's application would be refused, and Mr. Bowker's licence would be renewed without modifications.
