THE COMPANY constructing the toll collecting system for Germany's motorways insists the first part of the system will be up and running by the beginning of next ■ ear, despite widespread rumours of further problems. Toll Collect, a consortium made up of DaimlerChrysler, Deutsche Telekom and French tolling operator Cofiroute, maintains its on-board units have proved themselves more than 99% reliable after extensive tests (CM19 July).
