it Animal rights activists are thought to be behind a huge firebomb attack on a Unigate Dairies depot in Oxford which left 17 trucks wrecked and did damage worth more than £500,000.
The fire started in the early hours of Sunday morning after incendiary devices planted under the trucks were detonated, leaving just two vehicles operational.
The attack is being linked to an earlier incident at Tadmartin Poultry in Banbury where four trucks were burnt out.
"The attack has all the hallmarks of animal rights activists." says a police spokesman, who describes the devices as "basic but extremely effective'. A major investigation has been launched.
'We are at a loss to know why we have been targeted,' says Unigate Dairies spokeswoman Toni Hensby. The company was back in business on Monday. The staff have really pulled together and we have called on our other depots for replacement vehicles," she adds.
