lam writing in response to the letter "Poor response" (CM29 July-4 August). Now the chips are really down and our industry has clearly got a fight on its hands with the Government over fuel and VED, I was not encouraged to read that letter from JS Cook.

Surely at such a time we need to be showing the Government a unrted front irrespective of whether we prefer to fly the flag of the Road Haulage or Freight Transport Associations or Trans-Action.

Having taken part in last Monday's demonstration I was delighted to see John Bridge and Frank Stears side by side, speaking with one voice.

So come on, Mr Cook, let's stop the "handbags at 20 paces" and support the organisations in whatever it takes to make the Government listen and respond to our case. The sentiments expressed in Mr Cook's letter serve only to play into the Government's hands.
