THE growing trade in lime demanded experienced drivers who would satisfy farmer customers from an agricultural aspect as well as from the haulage angle, said Mr. James Wood, a representative of the Border Lime Agency, Ltd., Haddington, when he supported an application by Messrs. R. S. Galloway and Sons, 10 West Seaside, Prestonpans, at Edinburgh last week. The concern sought to vary their B licence to operate with lime, slag and fertilizer within a radius of 150 miles. Mr. A. Galloway said that they were handling these commodities for the Border Lime Agency on a contract-A licence, but as it was seasonal work the existing licence was unsuitable except at peak periods. The average notice allowed by farmers was about 24 hours.

Mr. W. F. Quin, Scottish Licensing Authority, granted the application as requested, but restricted the licence to work which could be handled by the three spreading units operated by Galloway.
