Head Cab Judges

CHAIRMAN of the panel of adjudi cators in the contest for the best cab, to be held in conjunction with thc final of the Lorry Driver of the Year Competition at Fort Dunlop on September 18, will be Li.-Col. R. Vernon C. Brook. 1-le is a celebrated engineer, was a judge in -the old C.M.U.A. parades and has been closely associated with the safety movement for many years.

Mr. W. P. James. West Midland Licensing Authority, who was invited to lead the judges, is unable to do so for reasons of policy.

The cab contest is for a trophy presented by Unilever, Ltd. The cup will go to the operator whose cab makes the greatest contribution to the safety, comfort and convenience of the driver. The contest is entirely separate from the lorry driver competition.

The manceuvritig tests in the final will be much more difficult than those of last year. Diagrams and details of them will he published in The Commercial Motor on September 16. Two heavy vehicles will be used for the final run-off.

Cllr. R. Brain, chairman of the committee, proposes to give a cup to the most consistent performer over a period of years in the final run-off.

As a result of complaints by The Commercial Motor, steps are to be taken to prevent competitors leaving the controls while vehicles are reversing. A rule is to be introduced requiring the driver to have at least one hand on the steering wheel while the vehicle is in motion.
