Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A CONFLICT of interest could arise if

a Traffic Commissioner were also a member of a municipal transport committee. Mr. Ernest Marples, Minister of Transport, has asked local authorities entitled to nominate persons as Commissioners or deputies to bear this in mind, but has made no definite ruling against the appointment of such a nominee.

Mr. Marples made a statement to this effect in the House of Commons last week.

PROFIT DESPITE HIGHER COSTS I N spite of increased wages charges of £400 per week, Mr. J. Rostron, general manager of the Grimsby and Cleethorpes Joint Transport undertaking, was last week able to report a surplus of £15,317 for the year ended March 31, 1960.

He reminded the transport committee that fares had not been raised for more than three years. In the past 12 months, more services were operated and more passengers carried than in the previous financial year, when the profit was £16,528.
