ccounts "—Mr. Hanlon

rtURING the hearing of an application by Robinson Transport (Carlisle), Ltd., to Mr. J. A. T. Hanlon, Northern Licensing Authority, at Carlisle last week, he said that hauliers should take advice on how to keep accounts which should be readily available and intelligible.

"I don't propose to accept figures unless they show the work done under separate licences," he added.

Of two applications by Robinson, one was for the variation and renewal of an A licence. In place of a platform vehicle. the concern wanted to add an articulated vehicle to one they already operated. Mr. T. H. Campbell Wardlaw represented the applicants who were unopposed. The application was granted. Robinson's second application was for the variation of a B licence, enabling them to add one vehicle and substitute another, with variation of certain conditions. This was opposed by British Road Services and British Railways, represented by Mr. F. J. McHugh.

For the applicants, it was explained that they wished to carry potatoes to many parts of the country and sought to carry return loads on long-distance journeys. The application was supported by Messrs. Henderson Bros., potato merchants.

Mr. McHugh did not press his objections and the application was granted with the condition of "carriage of goods for Messrs. Henderson Bros. and return loads."
