WHEN Scott's Transport Services (Preston), Ltd., successfully applied to Mr. A. If. Jolliffe, North Western Deputy Licensing Authority, last week, to add two vehicles to their A licence, Mr. K. Boothman, a director of Somic, Ltd., Preston, spinners and weavers, said that they required the applicants to provide direct services which did not involve the transhipment of goods.
Mr. Boothman submitted that there was sufficient transport available in Preston, and that British Road Services' vehicles could be obtained. Scott's would be required to deliver mainly to Dundee. Bridgwater and car factories in the Midlands.
Mr. Jolliffe commented that Scott's must have satisfied B.R.S. because their objection had been withdrawn. He granted a normal user: "Textiles for Somic, Ltd., as required." The applicants stated that they would surrender a vehicle on the licence. This was a unit of 5 tons unladen. One of the new vehicles would weigh 6 tons and the other 3+ tons.
B.M.C. SET NEW PEAK
ARECORD number of vehicles was produced by the British Motor Corporation in the year ended July 31. Sir Leonard Lord, chairman, giving provisional figures last week, said that B.M.C. output was 656,577, representing a level 35 per cent, greater than that of the previous year and 30 per cent. greater than the company's standing record output in 1957-58.
Sales to North America reached 110,340, which was higher than the target set, and more than 11,000 engines were sold to overseas manufacturers, mainly in the U.S.A. and Germany.

will be held on September 11 by the Historic Commercial Vehicle Club. Vehicles will leave Essex Carriers, Ltd.. South Benfleet, Essex, at 1 p.m. and arrive at the premises of Harold Wood and Sons. Ltd., Cranes Close, Basildon. at 2.30 p.m.
