Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

WITH less than two months to go before Earls Cdurt opens its doors again on another Commercial Motor Show, it is clear that most of the interest this year will be concentrated on relatively few of the stands, and that the majority of exhibitors are refraining from showing any new models. This is by no means a depressing sign, however, as it indicates that the industry as a whole feels that its present ranges are entirely satisfactory for both home and overseas markets. This view is backed up by the gratifyingly full order books to which most manufac

turers can point. .

Where new models and ranges are being introduced this year they are not necessarily being built because of any marked decline in orders, but mainly because the models they replace will have been in full flow for as many as 12 years in some cases, and therefore the need for change has been dictated by normal progress. One or two revolutionary exhibits can be expected, and marked improvements in driving conditions will be found on some stands, but for the most part the 1960 Show will probably be remembered as one of entrenchment, with makers concentrating on satisfying steady demands rather than passing fancies.
