THE Minister of Fuel and Power has . decided that the time is not appropriate to discontinue the rationing of commercial petrol — a decision in accordance with a recommendation lv the Standing Advisory Committee on Petrol Rationing.
This reaction to representations by the Association of British Chambers of Commerce in favour of the removal of control was reported at a r"cent meeting of Leeds Chamber of Commerce's road transport section, The Ministry, it was recalled, had given an' undertaking that commercial petrol would be de-rationed when this could be done without a substantial increase in consumption and the endangering of the standard ration. The Standing Advisory -Committee thought that the removal. of control would ,cause a substantial increase in consumption.
The Ministry has slated that the whole question will be kept under review.
A hint that petrol allowances for coaching May be cut for a few, years was given by Major F. S., Eastwood, Yorkshire .Licensing Authority,. speaking recently in Leeds.
" It may be that we May not be able to afford the amount of petrol for excursions that we have had this year —either next year or up to 1954", said Major Eastwood, who stated he had just returned from attending various meetings in London. t BIG -CHANGES IN SENTINEL DESIGN QUBSTANTIAL modifications in the
