Seven of the Steam and Petrol Exhibits Have Been Replaced by Others.

MHIS MONTH shows a decided

im

provement in the changes of commercial vehicle exhibits which have been effected—actually the number totals seven, of which, perhaps, the most interesting is the Mann Express steam wagon, of which a detailed description appeared in The Commercial Motor dated June 17th last.

This machine has a novel type of water-tube boiler and unit construction of engine and two-speed gearbox, the cylinders being across the frame. A feature of the wagon is the steamoperated brakes.

The Rlaudslay Motor Co.,. Ltd., now show a 25 h.p. Maudslay chassis of 2 21-ton load capacity. This vehicle has a four-cyliodered engine of 100 rnm, bore and 130 mm. stroke. There is a brake at the back of the gearbox, and the drive is by open propeller shaft to an overhead worm.

The exhibit of Richard Garrett and SONS, Ltd., has also been 'changed, that now shown being the 6-ton undertype steam wagon with hinge-sided body. William Beardmore and Co., Ltd., are now represented by a 30c.wt. drop. sided lorry with enclosed cab, having railway-type windows, Brolt electric lighting and Michelin pneumatic tyres.

Kamer Motors, Ltd., stage a 25 h.p. 2-ton platform lorry, the cab of which is well protected by high doors arid a three-piece windscreen. Four speeds are provided by the gearbox, the drive to this being through a fabric-faced cone clutch, whilst the final drive is by overhead worm.

The Vulcan Motor and Engineering Co, (1906), Ltd., have replaced their previous exhibit by a 2-ton lorry with a special body built for the distribution of petrol in cans, and one of .a large

order recently received from Shell-Alex, Ltd. It has the usual ;fireproof screen and C.A.V. electric lighting. Leyland Motors, Ltd., also stage a 2-ton vehicle; for they carrying of tins of Shell petrol. This has a steel fireproof screen behind the cab and Dunlop tyres on tubular-spoked wheels. A notable feature is the employment of Prima grease-gun lubricators.
