Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

L RADLEY makes some good points in her column (CM 22 March), but is guilty of the old political trick of creating a false dichotomy.

I hate seeing drivers tailgating or chucking rubbish out of cab windows, but equally I'm not happy about the proposed driver CPC. Who ever said exams proved anything, except how good you are at taking exams?

My problem with the driver CPC is based on the suspicion that it will be created and administered by 'managers' who know nothing about the job—that it is a job-creation programme for pen pushers who have never had to test their initiative and self-reliance miles from home with a tricky load on a wet, windy winter's night.

Far better to make it compulsory for transport bosses to provide proper inductions on new wagons from factory demonstration drivers, which would give practical knowledge that is of real vocational benefit.
