• Tarmac has agreed to meet north-western tipper operators who are threatening to strike in protest at rates which, some claim, have not risen in seven years" (CM 22-28 March).
The tipperrnen want a 20% pay rise and have received a lot of support from colleagues in other areas.
One of the operators behind the protest says: "We hope that if one area sticks its heels in, then'the benefits will spread around the country."
