• LBS Cold Stores is being merged with Yorkshire Cold Stores to produce one of the UK's largest cold store businesses.
The decision to merge the two Transport Development Group subsidiaries follows the sale of LBS's Bishop's Stortford cold store to Brake Brothers.
The Luton and Thetford cold stores will be integrated into Yorkshire Cold Store's sevenstrong national network, and will operate under the Yorkshire name.
Twelve staff at the Bishop's Stortford store have been made redundant. LBS managing director Donald Shearer has taken up the new post of cold store group marketing executive and has become a board member of the other TDG cold storage companies Freezwest, Western Ice, Novacold, Blyth Cold Stores, and Yorkshire Cold Stores.
He says there are no plans for further mergers in TDG's cold storage business. 0 TDG is negotiating to buy more companies in France and Germany: it already has holdings in France and Holland.
The company has also begun re-livering its 60-strong temperature-controlled fleet.
