• ADT Auctions has unveiled plans for a massive investment in new auction centres at Newport, Gwent and Bridgwater in Somerset.

The company's chief executive, Tom Gibson, says the new sites will provide state-ofthe-art facilities and service to customers in the West and South Wales.

Work has already begun on the 28-acre site at Queensway Meadows, Newport, which is due to open in early 1991. It will feature two auction halls and an undercover viewing area for 600 vehicles There will be a separate HGV and light commercial complex, a computerised entry control unit, a valeting and body preparation facility as well as a restaurant and cafeteria.

"Newport will handle around 1,000 cars and 300 light commercial vehicles a week and 200 HGVs a month," says Gibson.

Building on the 5.7 hectare Somerset site is due to begin in August. When completed, Gibson says the complex will serve customers throughout the West Country with a range of auctions including light van and commercial sales.

o ADT Auctions has renewed its contract with Thorn EMI to dispose of its vehicles for a further two years. The deal — worth 20,000 vehicles, including a large number of light commercials — was first awarded to ADT Auctions in 1987. The continuation of the contract means up to 1,000 Thorn EMI/Vauxhall vehicles per month will be available throughout ADT's 20-centre network, all with low mileage and less than 11 months old.
