Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

COMMERCIAL MOTOR's calculations show that operators' costs have risen by around three per cent as a result of the Budget.

This takes account of an extra ten per cent on overheads and a ten per cent increased profit margin on top of that, in addition to the changes in vehicle excise duty and fuel tax.

For diesel-engined vehicles, the new fuel costs amount to 0.2p per mile for a vehicle returning 20mpg; 0.26p per mile at 15mpg; 0.4p per mile at lOmpg; 0.5p per mile at 8mpg; and 0.6p per mile at 7mpg. Petrol-engined vans returning 30mpg will cost an extra 0.3p per mile.

Costs per hour for dieselengined vehicles operating at 30mph and returning 20mpg are up by 6p; 15mpg by 7.8p; lOmpg by 12p; 8mpg by 20p; and 7mpg by 21p.

For a 32-tonner, the rate per mile is up by 3.75p per mile or 12.5p per hour.
