THERE has been a gene welcome for the Chancellor the Exchequer's Budget de sion to end vehicle excise di on electric vehicles.
The move, which has 13€ designed to encourage enet conservation will cost l( than £2m in the current fin; cial year.
National Freight Corpo tion, which operates 18 batt( electric parcels vans, says move will help offset th higher overall cost. Their ri ning costs are similar to th( for diesel vans, but they ; more expensive to buy.
And Electric Vehi, Association president Lc Ironside said: "I am extrem encouraged by the Chanc lor's announcement. It c clearly be seen that tl important decision is a r contribution to conserving resources by encouraging I use of electricity as an alte ative fuel source.
"I am sure that transp operators will now exam: the electric vehicle opti more carefully in the knc ledge that the economics running electric vehicles more attractive than ever."
