JACK's fraternal enemy, Ray Buckton, general secretary of ASLEF, didn't miss a productivity trick when he gave evidence to Sir Arthur Armitage's panel. He recalled how he was once hindered on M1 by three heavy lorries which he claimed were in the outside lane. They'd be better linked together, said his wife.
The bold Ray agreed, but how much better, he thought, if they could also be put on rails with — yes, you've guessed — two men at the front.
