RAY BUCKTON (CM, March 8, p23) failed to observe that in the same way that "lorries are smashing motorways to pieces", trains are smashing the tracks to pieces (for example, the recent broken rail at Bushey), as anyone who has tried to travel on a main route at weekends will know.
The cost of track maintenance is millions, rather than thousands of pounds a year, 8nd "Joe Publichelps to pay for it, both in railway fares and government subsidies!
