Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A NEW 6 x 4 model based on the Dodge G1613 has been developed for tipper operators by Tricentrol Chassis Developments Ltd in collaboration with Hendrickson UK Ltd, reports BILL GODWIN.

It is designed as a successor to the highly regarded Dodge KT900 double-drive 24 tonner, which ceased production last year.

The Perkins V8.540 dieselengined Dodge four-wheeler chosen for the conversion — carried out in consultation with the special options department of the chassis maker — is fitted with Eaton Series D380 two-speed axles for a bogie capacity of 18 tonnes.

Use of the Hendrickson fully articulating bogie suspension brings a substantial weight saving over the only 6 X 4 available in the current Dodge range — the Spanish-built C2464.

" The new TCD — Hendrickson conversion, to be seen on the Tipcon demonstration site at Harrogate with Anthony Carrimore tipping bodywork, is between 500 and 600kg lighter (in chassis/cab form) than the Spanish-made unit.

By taking the wheelbase G16 5.18m (204in) as a base for the conversion, Tricentrol has been able to produce a 24 tons gvw unit without having to extend the frame.

The new wheelbase of the tandem-drive vehicle is 4.29m (169in) which is identical to the old Dodge KT900. The chassis frame is fully flitched rearwards from the front spring rear hanger bracket.

The option of an alternative aluminium equalising beam, offered by Hendrickson at an extra cost of around £100, produces a weight saving of about 2401b for the complete suspension.

Tricentrol is carrying out the adaptation of the Dodge chassis at its recently extended Dunstable works where some 200 such conversions per year can be dealt with.

Initially, between seven to ten days are needed for the chassis conversion, but this will be reduced to no more than 24 hours within a relatively short period.
