The machine shown in the illustration on the previous page is made by the Avery Co., of Peoria, III., U.S.A., and is known as the one-man road maintainer. Its object is to smooth and keep dirty farm roads in the best possible condition at all times. It is equipped with &powerful six-cylinder motor, of.3 in. bore and 4 in. stroke, drop-forged connecting rods and large crankshaft,. centrifugal governor of the throttling type, and three speeds forward with one reverse.
