Van prices suffer the biggest monthly fall this year, says British Car Auctions, as sellers need to get back to basics to survive the credit crunch.
f{ev41 SwatLow VAN PRICES DROPPED by £250, the biggest monthly fall this year, says BCA, as light CV market conditions get tougher.
Duncan Ward, BCA's UK business development manager, says: "Average values have fallen by more than £600 compared to those values recorded in January 2008."
To counter this, Ward recommends that vendors should "look at the basics of remarketing to ensure they are doing their best for their vehicles".
"Simple things done well can pay dividends in the current market — proper preparation and good presentation are vital if light CVs are going to achieve the best possible price at auction," he says.
Ward explains that you need to get prices right to reflect the current market value and know what buyers want. Buyers prefer air-conditioning, full electric packs, metallic paint, a side-loading door (two is better), a bulkhead, and a ply-lined load space interior to the basic models.
Ward retains a positive air and the "clean, straight panel vans will always find a ready audience". "The late-plate market is less buoyant than it was„ but the best stock will always sell" he reckons. •
