special day for children that often reduces hardened drivers to tears...

Last week, I mentioned the East Coast Truckers Club annual children's convoy. Well, judging from the participants' reports on TruckNet UK, it was a resounding success for the drivers, children and residents of Great Yarmouth.

I make no apologies for reproducing part of a report on the day by 'Valhalla', a forum member and driver.

"On Sunday 24 August, 84 trucks congregated at County Hall, Norwich for the 'convoy'. It was a slow journey from Norwich to Pleasurewood Hills theme park due to the wet roads. The rain did stop when we got on to the Acle Straight.

"The rain hadn't stopped people from coming out to support us. We arrived at Pleasurewood Hills at 12:10pm. The little girl, Rebecca, who I had as a passenger, was excited," he says.

"We left Pleasurewood Hills at 5:15 and headed for Great Yarmouth. We went through Yarmouth dock area and turned left onto the 'Golden Mile'."

Valhalla takes part in this "phenomenal" event every year and says Yarmouth seafront always puts a lump in his throat. "This year it was so emotional I cried!"

He adds: "We arrived back at County Hall at about 8pm. I helped Rebecca out of my truck. She gave me a massive hug and said thank you, which made me cry again."

Glenn Johnson (Little Enis), Rob Billman (Big Eris) and so many others deserve a massive congratulations for this event. Log on to the TruckNet UK forums for more about this day.
