Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A Welsh international operator's outward loads to Europe have increased since June this year against all expectations.

Due to the strength of sterling, international operators were thought to be experiencing a lack of outward business (CM 7-13 August). But Stuart Butterworth, operations manager at TDS Morgan Freight, says he has recorded a 5% increase in vehicle movements for outward loads since June this year.

"There does definitely appear to be a growth in the Spanish and Italian markets to where we transport raw materials and automative goods," he says.

forwarder Hellmann has announced that it is upgrading its services to four destinations in northern Germany to daily departures.

Mel Needley, managing director of Hellmann's European Division, expresses his surprise at the rate of growth in the German market.

"There is much speculation about the performance of British exporters in continental markets such as Germany," he says, "but we are seeing a continued growth in exports at a level that was beyond our initial expectations."
