Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

EEXTENSIVE tests of the modified C.5 high-speed coach that Midland " Red " intend to use on the LondonBirmingham motorway route have been carried out at the Motor Industry Research Association test track at Lindley. The prototype vehicle (the first of 10), was built entirely in the company's works at Edgbaston and has given full satisfaction.

Modifications which have been carried out to attain the maximum speed of 85 m.p.h.. with acceptable fuel economy. include the addition of a supercharger to the engine, overdrive and a high-ratio hypoid rear axle. The C.5 features disc brakes, developed jointly by Midland " Red" and Girling. Ltd., and is equipped with independent rubber suspension.

On test. the coach has been run for four-hourly periods at 75 m.p.h. to check engine temperatures, transmission and tyre life. Brake tests involved slowing from 70 m.p.h. to-30 m.p.h. every 99 sec. for two hours and acceleration figures indicate that with a 10-ton load, 70 m.p.h. is reached in 70 sec.

Midland "Red" are to run three nonstop services daily in each direction: the motorway route will reduce the present journey time of 5 hr. 20 min. by nearly two hours.
