Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

..Li YDRAULIC washing plants are now firmly established in the favour of commercial users. Companies which run large fleets, especially on public service or in connection with, the betterclass goods' traffic, have particularly welcomed the introduction of this class of appliance, for with them rapid and efficient cleansing of the vehicles is an important item.

It is, therefore, pleasing to note the Introduction of a Eritish-built washing plant by Mann, Egerton and Co., Ltd., of Norwich. In this appliance motive power is given by a Metro-Viek -electric motor of 3 h.p. A rabroid silent-running pinion is used for the primary drive, whilst cast-iron, machine-cut reduction gears are also emPloyed, so the plant should ran smoothly and quietly. Its heavy metal base should also assist

In this connection. •

The sturdy 'construction of the three throw, ram-type pump can clearly be seen from our illustration and, moreover, the general efficiency of this type of pump is widely recognized, it being now largely adopted by marine engineers. The cylinder block of the pump Is of gun-metal, as are the supporting standards. Phosphor-bronze is em

ployed for the rams and crossheads, whilst the heavy, adjustable connecting rods are of bronze. Lubrication is adequately supplied to all bearings by means of wick-type oil feeders. An interesting point is the provision of a pressure-release screw, which takes the load off the motor ta:enable it to be started up more easily. • TR° working pressure of the machine is 300-350 !b. per sq. in., but the consumption of

water is stated to be low for this type of appliance. The accessibility of the unit has also received much attention from its designers.

Mann, Egerton and Co., Ltd., supplies the plant complete with sufficient hose to meet all normal requirements and the type of .gun fitted to the appliance has been specially designed by the company's engineers, it being capable of very fine adjustment.
