on the Isle of Man, has added the seventh 6x6 Pinzgauer lightweight appliance pump to the island's fleet. Fitted with a six-cylinder Volkswagen engine producing 115hp at 4,500rpm and drying through an automatic four-speed gearbox, its main advantage over more conventional fire engines is its off-road versatility. Traditional fire appliances are unable to cope with the island's tough and inaccessible terrain, but the Pinzgauer 6x6's two-speed synchromesh transfer box makes light work of the hills. It has a GVW of 4,650kg and is fitted with disc brakes.
