• Cleanaway has become one of the first fleets to take advantage of the recent relaxation in Construction and Use regulations on the use of television screens in cabs (CM June 28 and July 26).
The GKN Brambles company, which is one of the country's largest operators of refuse collection vehicles, has had a Brigade Backeye reversing video on trial on a Volvo FL7 8x4 operating from its Rainham, Essex depot since the new C and U regula
tions came into force on August 11.
Depot engineer, Bernard Barham, says that his drivers typically have to make at least thirty reversing manoeuvres a day, picking up skips or containers. He is already convinced of the Backeye's system's benefits in safety and timesaving.
Before deciding, however, Cleanaway wants to put its durability and reliability to the test during a full winter's operation at Rainham.
