• A new contract, worth more than £2 million, has got the recent Flowers Distribution's move away from straightforward haulage operations into bulk storage and distribution (CM September 6) off to a flying start.
The contract, with
supermarket chain Asda, is for the nationwide distribution of non-food products into Asda stores. Flowers Distribution's managing director, Stephen
Yates, says there are other big contracts in the pipeline.
As part of the expansion. Flowers is currently recruiting an extra 52 staff including 31 warehousemen, 10 drivers and three managers.
The present 9,290m2 warehouse site is being increased by 2,787m2 and the fleet has expanded by a dozen Leyland and Volvo 16 tonne vehicles, with some 32 thrillers on order for the trunking operations.
