Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

WHO has the best bus or coach livery in Britain? We will know on December 6 when we publish the results of our 1980 livery competition for passenger vehicles.

CM launched this event three years ago, and every year since the standard of vehicle livery has improved. Many of those entering our event have the touch of the professional designer showing through. Just as many are the creative brainchild of the operator, painter or driver.

The prizes do not always go to the mighty. In fact, the biggest companies in the country have entered but have yet to win.

What do the judges look for? A nice blend of colours and layout which does not intrude on the environment. A form of words that states the operator's case, like "British and Continental Tour Operator telephone 123/4567". Use of lettering that is consistent with the body line.

The rules are simple and the entry fee is nominal.

We require: Four 35mm colour transparencies showing both sides, full front and full rear views of the entry.

They should be accompanied by an official entry form (see this page) and a remittance of £5.

They should reach this office io later than 12 noon on October 31, but we will accept entries handed to our receptionist up until 2pm on that day.

Helpful hints

Too many entries are spoiled through bad photography, so our advice is: use an experienced person for the photographic work. CM cannot supply a photographer.

Remember the judges are looking at the vehicle, not at the background, and they are quite unimpressed by any additional photographic aids.

If the weather is inclement, photographs taken inside a garage can be just as impressive as ones on the road — it's your livery the judges want to see.

The competition is open to operators, drivers, painters or designers; always with the owner's permission.
