BORDERS Regional Council says its Border Courier combined Passenger and goods public transport service, run in cooperation with Eastern Scottish is carrying twice as many passengers as expected.

It was expected that some 200 passengers a week would use the service, which cost £78,000 a year to run, but in the first six months of operation passenger levels were 35 per cent up.

The service has been used by the Scottish Development Department to evaluate its usefulness but its grant will be withdrawn in March 1981,
