BEDFORD is planning a number of improvements to its front-engined VAS passenger chassis which should be into production by the New Year. The changes include the use of floormounted pedals, new instruments," a re-raked steering Column to reduce the distance from the windscreen, and the use of a re-positioned gearlever.
The VAS has been taken into Bedford's computerized numbering system and is designated the PJK in dieselengined form and PFE for the petrol version. However, these. letters apply only to internal designation and the chassis will continue to be marketed as the VAS. About 750 VAS are produced each year, 80 per cent of which are for the home market.
