CUMBRIA County Council has decided to reimpose its ban on heavy lorries using four routes in the county. , The ban was placed on articulated lorries over 3 tons or towing trailers using A683, A684, A685 and B6260.
Cumbria police wanted the ban because of the "narrow and twisting" roads in sections of route concerned.
PRE-TAX profits of Thomas Nationwide Transport, the Australian parent company of Kwikasair, were a record, SA14.35 m (f8.04m) for the year ended June 30, compared with $A11.19m (6.27m) for the preceding year. Sir Peter Abeles, the managing director, reported that group profits were adversely affected by losses in Britain and Europe and in Ca lifornia.
