Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

FM AN AGENCY C+E driver and would like to comment on my experiences. I work for agencies as 1 enjoy the variety, and the ability to operate as a limited company. But I'm aware of the reputation agency drivers have and wonder how much the poor performance of some drivers is to do with companies' strategies for dealing with them.

I'm amazed at how little businesses talk to new drivers. Full-time employees usually get one or two weeks' induction, but often the reaction to a stranger is lo shove the keys and manifest into their hands and tell them the truck is in the yard. This guy is about to be let loose with up to /100,000-worth of truck and trailer, plus he is going to represent your company to your invaluable customers. So maybe spending 30 minutes briefing him isn't unreasonable. Is he familiar with this kind of vehicle and trailer? Will there he any special load-securing requirements? How does he get in touch with you if there is a problem, and what is the name of the person he should speak to? What are you expecting from him regarding the paperwork?

I've often been informed, rudely, at the end of a shift that I've broken a company rule that I wasn't aware of. It's Lou late then.

Another advantage of talking to someone is that once they are onside. they are going to perform better for you. Too often a question or problem is greeted with a withering look and a rude reply Why would you then expect this person to go out and do his best for you?

Professional agency drivers can be a valuable resource; this is a person who sees all kinds of transport operation. By comparison, they might notice some points about your work practices. defect reporting and other compliance proce dures that you haven't. So taking the time to communicate with them properly might turn out to be a valuable two-way process.
