HEIL WILL UNVEIL a sub-five tonne tare-weight 44,000-litre petroleum tank trailer at the Federation of Petroleum Suppliers (FPS) show in Telford next April.

But the US-owned firm will pass on next year's CV Show at the NEC, saying it has grown "too big". European MD Chris Dalton adds that the FPS event is -more focused on the fuel industry and capable of turning into a show like the old TankCon event".

After the FPS show Heil will demonstrate its non-petroleum products through a series of roadshows. "It's not about price, we just think the CV Show at NEC is too big and we don't have enough time to talk to customers." he adds.

The new monocoque triaxle trailer is described as an "evolutionary development of the current ADR 5000 Series". It will begin prototype trials m the UK with Exxon Mobil in December; other pre-production modelswillenterservicewithBP and Sucldingaansport.

Dalton reports: "We've taken off close to 600kg from the existing model without compromising strength. The prototype will come with SAF running gear, but operators will be able to specify BPW or Arvin Mentor axles."

With Heil closing its Bilston plant the ADR 5000 model will be supplied primarily from Poland. Heil plans to extend its line-up in 2005 to include bulk silo, food and general-purpose tankers.
