With the festive season zooming up the highway in the fast lane, our thoughts turn to the vexing matter of what to get whom for Christmas. Sadly, for some folk pressies under the tree are a rare sight. Since 1992 the charity Link Romania has been delivering shoeboxes to communities in Romania—last year it delivered 54,000.
Each box is packed with small items such as writing paper, jars of coffee and toiletries. Often the shoebox are the only gifts the people there will receive, and for this reason they are all the more valued.
For its 1999 Shoebox Appeal, Link Romania would like to hear from any drivers who would be willing to collect shoeboxes from around the UK and bring them to a warehouse in Worthing during the two weeks following 5 November.
It is also looking for truckers who would be prepared to drive their vehicles, filled with shoeboxes, to Romania. The drivers will have to arrange their own sponsorship to cover fuel and expenses.
