Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A soppy mutt smile fell across Foden the dog's chops when his master related this doggy tale...

Andy and Valerie Edgcomb, from Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands, returned from a slap-up pub meal to find that their car had been pinched. Panic set in as the couple had left their pet mongrel Sadie in the vehicle.

However, all was not lost as Sadie was quickly located, snuggled up in the back of a nearby Citroen, Before the thief had made away with the Edgcomb's car he had thoughtfully smashed the Citroen's window and placed their dog inside. "This is very unusual," says a police spokesman. "Car thieves are not normally quite so caring with the property of their victims—this crime was clearly committed by an animal lover."

Of course it doesn't say much for Sadie's determination to protect her owners' property. It seems that, like Foden. her guard-dog skills leave much to be desired!
