• Motor Vehicles (Driving Licences) (Large Goods & Passenger Carrying Vehicles) (Amendment) Regulations 1993 (SI 1603).

Increases fees for LGV/PCV driving tests to: weekday, £60.00; Saturday ,£77.50. Effective date: 6 July 1993.

• International Carriage of Perishable Food Stuffs Regulations 1993 (SI 1589).

Amends the definition of Perishable Foodstuffs and the special equipment to be used for such carriage contained in the 1985 regs of the Agreement on the International Carriage of Perishable foodstuffs. Effective date: 18 July 1993.

• Road Vehicles (Construction & Use) (Amendment) (No 2) Regs 1992 (SI 422). Amends Regulation 36B of the 1986 Construction & Use Regulations to require retrospective fitting of speed limiters to vehicles first used on or after 1 January 1988 with a GVW over 16,000kg and which are either articulated or constructed or adapted to draw a trailer with a GVW over 5,000kg Effective date : 1 August 1993.

• Road Traffic Offenders (Prescribed Devices) Order 1993. (SI No 1698).

This defines the sensors on the road and a device activated by a vehicle passing through light beams for speed detection. Effective date : 9 August 1993.

• Road Vehicles (Registration & Licensing) (Amendment) Regulations 1993 (SI 1760).

Increase in fees for issue of a duplicate licence from £3.50 to £5.50.

Effective date: 9 August 1993.

• Highways (Traffic Calming) Regulations 1993.

This permits local authorities to introduce traffic calming measures such as chicanes, pinch points, gateways, rumble devices, islands and overrun areas. Effective date: 27 August 1993.

• Chemicals (Hazard Information & Packaging) Regulations 1993 (SI 1746). Made under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974; regulates the classification, packaging and labelling of substances and preparations dangerous for supply on carriage.

Effective date: 1 September 1993.
