Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

FORD has introduced a new heavy-duty pack

age for both short and long wheelbase chassis in the Ford Transit range. Available as a regular production option, the new heavy-duty specification is tailored for vehicles operating under arduous conditions, such as on/off-the-road work, or for vehicles used as a base for special equipment which imposes heavy localized loadings.

The new option will be unveiled on two Transits to be shown on the Ford stand (No. BB4) at the Public Works and Municipal Services Exhibition at Olympia from November 14-19. One will be equipped as an hydraulic lift platform and the other as a mobile compressor.

For short (106 in.) wheelbase models, offering payloads of 12 cwt., 17 cwt. and 22 cwt., the heavy-duty package includes: The welding of triangular steel strengthening plates between cross-members and frame side members; The welding of channel section members internally into the frame side members at stress points such as the rear springs area; The fitting of Aeon rubber spring aids and brackets front and rear; The fitting of heavy-duty rear shock absorbers; And the fitting of stronger rear springs, The 12 cwt. and 17 cwt, models are fitted with the springs from the vehicle in the next highest payload bracket while the 22 cwt. model is fitted with the rear springs from the newly introduced Transit 290 Parcel Van.

For long (118 in.) wheelbase models with payloads of 25 cwt., 30 cwt. and 35 cwt., the heavy-duty specification includes:—

The welding of channel section members internally into the frame side members; The fitting of Aeon rubber spring aids and brackets front and rear; The fitting of heavy-duty rear shock absorbers; And stronger rear springs—like the short wheelbase versions, the 25 cwt. and 30 cwt. are fitted with springs from the next highest payload category while the 35 cwt. has the springs from the new Transit 390 Parcel Van.

The use of higher capacity rear springs on all heavy-duty Transits does not allow for increased gross vehicle weights. These gross weights remain the same and the heavy-duty package has been introduced solely to increase durability in arduous operational conditions.

The two new heavy-duty Transits to be shown at the Public Works Exhibition are both 25 cwt. long wheelbase chassis/cab models, one with a petrol engine and the other with a diesel.
