SUNDERLAND Corporation's new one-man, flat-fare bus system is to be studied by the 14-man transport team recently set up by the Conservative Party.
Mr. Peter Walker, Shadow Transport Minister, said during a North East visit last Friday that a member of the team was to visit the town to examine die system in detail. "It is a very interesting scheme and if it is a success it could be encouraged elsewhere," he added.
Mr. Walker also said that Government action which had increased petrol and licence charges, imposed Selective Employment Tax and brought about other measures had pushed up transport costs and this was badly hitting North East industry.
