THE executive committee of the Scottish Co operative Transport Association has issued a statement emphasizing the need for adequate, regular and recorded maintenance of vehicles, writes a Scottish correspondent. This move follows several cases this year in which cooperative societies have suffered penalties under section 178 of the Road Traffic Act following Ministry inspections resulting in the issue of GV9s.
The committee recognizes the problems of spares and staff shortage in some quarters but stresses that inspection and repair of vehicles must be undertaken and must be carefully recorded to show that work has been done. Thorough inspections at least every eight weeks, and preferably more often, are suggested.
