ITis generally assumed that the only really effective way of repairing a tyre tube is by a process of vulcanizing and, whilst this may,be true if the alternate method, taken for comparison, be a solutioned patch, it does not stand if we take the Bowes Seal Fast process.

In repairing a tube by the Bowes method the area around the hole or slit is first given a roughened surface, which is then brushed with a special solvent and cleanser. Using the tool provided in the kit, any excess is removed and this, incidentally, leaves the tube perfectly clean. A Bowes rubber-unit or patch is then applied and immediately rubbed down so as to ensure intimate contact between he patch and the tube.

It is fairly safe to say that a patch so applied is immovable, the most strenuous tests to which we could subject such a repair providing conclusive evidence of this fact. Actually, a Bowes patch can be applied quicker than can one by the solution method.

Bowes patching medium is dissimilar to the normal type of solutioned patch in that it is of three-ply construction; the contact surface virtually becomes part and parcel of the original tube.

Whereas a Bowes patch was stretched to four or five times its length immediately following application and without any harmful effect, a solutioned repair, made by ourselves, peeled off finder the same test.

There is .prattically no limit to the size cif the burst or slit in a tube which can be effectively dealt with, even to the extent of joining a completely severed giant tube.

The Bowes process is also applicable to cover repairs alai although there are certain limits as to the size of cut which can be dealt with, gashes up to about 2 ins, in length can he satisfactorily treated.

After preparing the defective Fart by scarfing, both inside and out, tyre dough—which is pure rubber—is forced in by means of a special gun until the cut is completely filled. A Super-flex section is then applied to the inside of the cover, the special solvent and cleanser being used as in the case of tube repair. No special knowledge or skill is required.
