According to a Department of Overseas Trade report on China, motor traffic continues to make slow progress in the country, and it is, roughly, estimated that there are about 1,200 commercial vehicles and motorbuses in use, half of which are to be found operating in or around Shanghai. The absence of good roads is, of course, mainly respon&tile for the limited demand for motor vehicles; but it is expected that with the gradual extension of road-building projects China will ultimately become a promising market for British motor vehicles.
It is stated that a Chinese company in Shanghai are preparing to place on the market an electrically propelled vehicle of an unusual type, which is intended to compete with the jinricksha traffic. The vehicle will provide accommodation for one passenger in addition to the driver, and it is said that it can be sold at about £50.
