Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Securicor Express forecasts that it will have a linked distribution system covering the UK, Ireland, France, Luxembourg, Belgium and the Netherlands established by the end of this year.

Bob Andrews, managing director of the company's European Parcels Division, says that with the recent appointment of Keith Miller to take charge of development of distribution in the UK — and with the new joint venture agreement signed with French parcels carrier Grimaud — the distribution capacity throughout Europe will be integrated into one complete system.

"Customers obviously want to deal with multi-national companies able to provide a range of services and complete geographical coverage of Europe," says Andrews. "Securicor is now well on the way towards providing that essential Europe-wide coverage."

The French connection will be provided by Securicor France, subsidiary of Securicor Express and Grimaud, using established Aer Securicor services and trading under the name of Grimaud Securicor SARL. The venture will join Grimaud's 700 vehicles and 1,000 employees with Securicor France's 20 vehicles and 50 employees at the 56 depots run by the two companies. "Bringing together two of the biggest operators, each with its own large existing client base, creates real opportunities to exploit the massive French parcels market," Andrews says.

The market for the movement of parcels between France and the UK is worth up to £40 million a year with an annual growth rate of 20%.
