LEX SERVICE has combined its seven independent transport business units into one High Wycombe-based transportation group.
• TNT is taking a leaf out of the National Freight Consortium's book by offering its spare maintenance capacity at nights to other transport operators.
It is marketing the service as TNT Truckcare and hopes to generate £5m to £6m extra turnover from the 1,000 additional vehicles which Truckcare could attract to the 26 depots during the next year.
• Meachers Transport, the expanding Southampton haulage and warehousing business within Pirelli's cable group, has taken over KL Commercials, an ERF distributor covering Hampshire, Dorset, Sussex and Oxfordshire.
• Cotrali-Pickfords, NFC's freight forwarding subsidiary, plans to generate £750,000 extra revenue following the opening on May 1 of a new branch office at Bradford.
• Dow Freight Services, the Stockport-based motor parts transport specialist, has beaten off a strong bid from TNT to take over its £9m delivery contract with VAG, the Volkswagen/Audi distributor, VAG has called for a 10 per cent Increase in Dow's dedicated fleet used on the contract, and 15 additional staff will be taken on to handle it.
